i never thought i would come to this...

i never thought it COULD come to this...

i actually want to be back at school. when did i start to despise being home for the summer?

the only redeeming (and it a good one) quality of being home is that everyone else is home too. except for a few special kids who decided to go away or stay away for the summer.

i think once the summer actually decides to become a summer (meaning sunshine, maybe some heat) it will get better. or if i had some huge plans for the summer.

want to go somewhere? do something? have some fun?

two decades...

it's my birthday [tomorrow].

i'm usually excited for my birthday...a new year...a new age, usually bringing new benefits.

however...20? the implications of this specific age are particularly frightening and possibly appalling.

ugh. its such a disgusting number.

first of all, you are no longer a teenager. no more excuses for your angsty behavior. however, this now means you can write off those younger than you as "those dang young'ens".

it also means that from here on out, you REALLY are an adult. there is no holding on to the last few years as a teenager. there is no turning back.

ick. twenty. that number doesn't even sound good.

lastly, turning twenty does absolutely nothing for you. even 19, while carrying no recognized benefits, has some consolation in knowing that you are even more of an adult than 18, if that makes any sense. but 20? nothing! i still have to wait a year...an entire year...before i can get into a lot of good shows. yeah thats right, i dont care about being of legal drinking age, i just want to get into shows.

speaking of shows, which i know i previously posted on, i am still so disappointed in the choice of some venues to hold 21+ shows for really good bands.

i guess at the same time, every day i get older brings me closer to wisdom as i continue to learn through conversation and experience. every day brings me closer to finding what i am meant to do with my time here. and every day is a gift.

tomorrow is going to be an amazing day.

summer?!?

i just posted on myspace, which is strange, when i suddenly realized i haven't been to xanga in a long time. hello old friend. so what follows is my [slightly altered] myspace post.

i really dont feel like writing this particular paper. so that means i haven't started yet. as it is now 3:15 am, i am left to wonder if i will sleep tonight. i really don't like sleeping. its kind of a waste of time.

i can't believe two years of college...almost done. this year has been absolutely amazing...being in seattle (which brings about all sorts of adventures)...as well as all these people...i seem to meet new people all the time and there are so many people i wish i knew or wish i knew better.

it leaves me conflicted. i have always enjoyed summer, especially seeing all you kids who go to school in far off lands...but i think this will be one of those times i will actually be looking forward to the next year. i will definitely miss everyone and being on campus. seriously, this room here is nicer and larger than my room at home. plus, i wont be able to go downtown as often.

i'm really not tired at all. should i be worried about that?

4th west!! (plus evy!)

my floor - at least all of us who went. emerson banquet was amazing.

so far i have gotten through this without once mentioning music and/or frisbee. but now that i have...

ultimate frisbee = addiction. a healthy one. at least i think so. except i have a hard time playing in the day time sometimes because i'm so used to playing in the dark.

 frisbee!!

yes. we actually played frisbee at banquet.

as for music, my main thoughts lately have been centered around the fact that EVERYTHING in seattle, at least lately, is for the 21+ crowd. i was recently looking through some concert calendars and noticed some bands i would really really love to see live....all 21+. i dont know if i've been lucky so far this year, but it seems that suddenly ALL of them are only for the drinking crowds. seriously....peter bjorn and john, menomena, electric soft parade/pela/brakesbrakesbrakes (seriously!!! all three in one show...that would have been amazing). they are all so affordable, yet unobtainable. sigh. only one year (and a week...sick....i'm twenty in ONE WEEK...i really dont like that number).

looks like cloud cult might be my last show of this year. but it was a good one.

summer looks promising. events i'm excited for in the near future: seattle film festival (i really want to see 'eagle vs shark' and 'once' [which features not only music from the frames, but acting from the lead singer as the main character]!), capital hill block party, decemberists/menomena playing in oregon (a little road trip, maybe), STP, weddings (oh boy...its intimidating when people your own age start to get married)...its going to be packed.

05 love kerry park. unfortunate spelling though.

i'd be surprised if anyone has actually read this far. if you have, i would be grateful if you would leave a little comment with the name of a song or artist that you have been listening to recently. or even a good song lyric. may i suggest under byen - af samme stof som stof (although i most likely spelled some part of that wrong). electric soft parade is a good listen as well. along with a lot of others that you really should listen to, but it would take too long to write them all out.

love you all.

seriously...

when is there time to do homework??

there is too dang much to do in a day. how do they expect me to read about logic and a section from hobbes' leviathon? well, that is, if i want to take time to sleep or something.

so instead of starting my homework, in this whole half an hour that i have free before i am off to the next thing, i'm going to waste some time. well, i don't think its a waste. but technically, it is.

I LOVE SPRING. and i still can't believe last friday was close to 80 degrees...and that i actually got a little bit of a tan from playing ultimate outside. i obviously still look white, but its a step closer.

my classes are going to be good - not much actual work to do, but a lot of thinking. we'll see how that goes.

okay and for the real point of this post - uh uh uh CLOUD CULT. fully obsessed after the first listen of their latest release - the meaning of 8!

i heard the best description of how it fits in with their other albums - seeing the progression from the despair and sadness early on in they live on the sun and aurora borealis, to the exploration of death with a tinge of hope in advice from the happy hippopotamus, to a full-blown hope-filled triumph in the meaning of 8. well, they said it better than i did, but the feeling is still there.

every track EVERY TRACK is phenomenal - all eighteen of them. especially pay attention to the lyrics.

currently i'm listening to "your 8th birthday" which is about their son. i'm getting ahead of myself - craig minowa, who does mostly everything in cloud cult, including recording in his basement under the eco-friendly label earthology records (which produces the whole album using environmentally-friendly materials), and wife connie minowa had a son, kaidin, who died when he was two, mysteriously in his sleep. most of their material on past albums deals with his death and the circumstances surrounding it. but anyway, this year would've been his eigth birthday and this song just breaks my heart.

i want to say there are a few notable songs - pretty voice, chemicals collide, take your medicine...but seriously, i think none are to be overlooked.

i can't wait to see them live - seventeen days. !!

also - say hi to your mom next friday! this is a good month.

other recent obsessions...if you haven't heard them, you really should. right now. i'm waiting....(okay thats creepy)

annuals - be he me

menomena - friend and foe

pilotdrift - water sphere

and i'll leave you with a gasworks picture...from last thursday, which was nice, but not quite as nice as friday.

04 love it.

oh boy. i really don't have any time left now. oh well.

no nO NO

more finals!!! yessssssssssss.

so funny story.

my infamous ucor class that i love to complain about all the time (sorry) is finally done. but the final...oooh the final...we were given a list of terms and essay questions in advance to study from. the unfortunate truth was that our prof said that in order to reach a complete answer, we would probably need to do independent research...on wikipedia, was his suggestion. so funny story, i studied for my final fully using the wikipedian resource...never once using the textbook or any of the scant lecture notes from this quarter. in summary, this was supposedly a history class, but i definitely learned a lot more in roberts-jones sophomore year in high school. i cant believe i had to pay for this one.

my entire class was really fed up with the whole not learning anything and then having a final like this...to the point that there was some yelling and protest right before we took the test. needless to say, that was interesting...

but its over. and there was much rejoicing.

i witnessed an amazing feat tonight...a superman dive into an impressive mud puddle. frisbee kids are my favorite!
